The Safe Routes to School Handbook is a comprehensive resource that will help your school start and sustain a Safe Routes to School program. The Handbook includes information on:

  • How to organize a Walk to School Day event

  • How to build an effective Safe Routes to School team

  • How to survey students and parents

  • How to conduct a walking audit and school property assessment

  • How to create an action plan

The Handbook is available in the following ways:

  • Attend a SR2S training session (see training schedule). The prepackaged (hard copy) Handbook is available at no cost to school representatives that attend training. Prepackaged versions are also available on a case-by-case basis to core stakeholder group representatives that attend training.

  • Download and print the Handbook from the Safe Routes to School website
